Q1: What is the primary purpose of a gas washing bottle?
A1: A gas washing bottle is used to remove impurities from a gas stream or to dry a gas. The bottle is partially filled with a specific liquid solvent or desiccant. The gas is forced down through the inlet tube, bubbles up through the liquid (which scrubs or neutralizes it), and exits cleanly through the outlet nozzle.
Q2: Can I use this bottle to protect my vacuum pump?
A2: Yes! This is a very common application. You can set it up empty as a “cold trap” or “buffer bottle” between your reaction flask and the vacuum pump. If your reaction accidentally boils over, the liquid will be trapped safely in the heavy-duty glass washing bottle instead of being sucked into and destroying your expensive vacuum pump.
Q3: Which cap material should I choose?
A3: It depends entirely on the heat and chemical aggressiveness of your experiment. For standard room temperature aqueous washing, the red PP (Polypropylene) cap is perfect. If you are neutralizing hot corrosive gases, upgrade to the PBT cap. For boiling acids or extreme organic solvents up to 250°C, the white PTFE (Teflon) cap is mandatory.
Q4: Why are the hose nozzles detachable?
A4: Traditional gas washing bottles have delicate glass nozzles permanently fused to the cap. These glass stems snap incredibly easily when you try to force thick rubber vacuum tubing onto them. Our detachable PE barbed nozzles allow you to safely attach your hoses first, and then screw the nozzles securely into the cap.
