Q1: Can this scanner detect plastic PVC water pipes?
A: No, standard stud finders cannot detect empty plastic PVC pipes directly. However, if the PVC pipe is completely filled with flowing water, the density changes. Consequently, the scanner might detect the density anomaly in Stud Mode. Therefore, always proceed with caution when drilling near bathrooms.
Q2: How do I calibrate the device before scanning?
A: Calibration is incredibly simple. First, place the scanner flat against a wall where you know no studs exist. Next, press and hold the scan button. The device will beep once calibration finishes securely. Thus, it guarantees highly accurate readings for that specific drywall density.
Q3: Will it detect live wires hidden inside metal conduits?
A: No, it cannot. Specifically, solid metal conduits act as a Faraday cage. As a result, they completely block the electrical signals from escaping. Fortunately, the device will still detect the metal pipe itself in Metal Mode safely.
Q4: Do I need to buy a specific battery for it?
