What is the primary advantage of the pear-shaped design over a globe-shaped funnel?
The pear-shaped design of the Xin Tester funnel is specifically optimized for liquid-liquid extraction. The tapered bottom makes it much easier to observe the interface between two immiscible liquids, allowing for a more precise separation of the bottom layer compared to a round, globe-shaped funnel.
How do I maintain the glass stopcock to prevent it from sticking?
Because it is a glass-to-glass fit, we recommend applying a very thin layer of high-quality vacuum grease to the stopcock plug before use. After the experiment, always clean the stopcock thoroughly and place a small piece of paper between the plug and the housing during storage to prevent “freezing” or sticking.
Is this funnel resistant to strong acids and alkalis?
Yes, the high borosilicate 3.3 glass is exceptionally resistant to chemical corrosion. It is designed to handle most acids and alkalis. However, like all glass labware, it should not be used with hydrofluoric acid or hot, concentrated phosphoric acid, which can etch the glass over time.
